EM Johnson Water Treatment Plant
In November of 2009, Carolina Solar Energy partnered with the City of Raleigh to build a 255-kilowatt (kWdc) photovoltaic (PV) system at the EM Johnson Water Treatment Plant off Falls of the Neuse Rd. in Raleigh, NC.
The project was constructed with the help of subcontractors King Brothers Electric Company and TROSA on the roof of a 117,000 sq. ft. enclosed concrete structure that holds clear treated drinking water for the City of Raleigh.
The installation consists of 3400 thin-film First Solar FS-75 modules with Schletter ballasted racks. This project represents the first deployment of First Solar’s cutting edge thin-film technology on the East Coast. First Solar panels also have a no cost, pre-funded, end-of-life take back and recycling program.
The system went online in December of 2009 and generates approximately 346,500 kilowatt-hours.
The energy that the Person County Solar Park produces is sold to Progress Energy Carolinas for distribution to its customers.
