Advocating Policy

We advocate for clean energy policy locally, regionally and nationally. Since 2004 we have been part of the push for solar energy in NC and beyond.

Engaging Locally, Regionally, Nationally

We contribute time, effort and resources to strengthen the solar industry in the US. Our experience, history and values guide our policy work.

We meet with legislators to share information about our projects in their districts. We emphasize the property tax benefits of solar energy.

Carson has served as co-chair or member of various committees of North Carolina Clean Energy Business Alliance (NCCEBA). She has testified twice before the NC Utilities Commission as an expert witness.

We also help grow energy solar energy markets in Virginia and Kentucky. We are members of the regional groups Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition (MAREC) and MDV-SEIA.

Through our membership in Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), we advocate for solar energy nationally.

Our policy work even predates our company’s founding. In 1997, Governor Jim Hunt named Richard to serve on the NC Legislative Study Commission on Electric Utility Deregulation.

Richard championed NC's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard ("REPS"). North Carolina became the first state in the Southeast to pass REPS legislation in 2007.

Richard testified many times before the NC Utilities Commission.  He also served three terms as Chair of the NC Sustainability Energy Association. He helped found the NC Clean Energy Business Alliance.

These early efforts have helped NC to become the #2 state in the country in installed solar energy.
